It is already mid August and summer is more than half over. Cases are at a moderate pace at the office. There are several larger cases we have been working on with other agencies.
We have been working closely with the Glasgow Police Department concerning abuse and sexual assault cases. We had contracted with them through a grant that Police Chief, Bruce Barstad, had applied for and received this past year. This gave him the opportunity to extend his services to other surrounding counties and we appreciated the offer and took him up on it. Now we have at our disposal, the most up to date equipment and the people to run it, along with certified forensic interviewers and a Victim Advocate. These services along with the Women’s Resource Center based out of Glasgow, provide support for those involved in Partner Family Member Assault situations.
This week we were told that the PCSO will be awarded a continued Federal Grant (Operation Stone Garden) which will provide the office with over $200k in funds for equipment and manpower to patrol the Northern Corridor. This grant was part of a multi-billion dollar disbursement through Homeland Security. This is the third year that Phillips County has been awarded the grant. We’d like to thank the local Border Patrol Office for their assistance with this program.
The Sheriff’s Office is organizing for the future and the new Sheriff to take over at the first of the year. There will be an opening that will need filled once the dust settles. The PCSO continues to function with the assistance of four Reserve Deputies.
As you may know, Gary Taylor has been appointed as fill-in for the Justice of the Peace and is doing an outstanding job with the training he’s received from Blaine County’s Justice of the Peace, Perry Miller.
School is starting next week and with that comes concerns for the safety of children. Please drive safe and be aware of the younger generation. It only takes a split second to change the lives of many.
