Home to approximately 4,200 residents, Phillips County is located in North Central Montana and is bordered by Canada to the North and the Missouri River to the South. Phillips County includes the county seat of Malta, the towns of Saco and Dodson, and the unincorporated areas of Loring, Whitewater, Zortman, and Landusky. Phillips County is the 2nd largest county in Montana by total land area, which totals 5,212 sq miles. In addition, Phillips County contains 1,200 miles of roadways, which includes US Highway 2 and MT Highway 191 North / MT Highway 191 South.
Phillips County is known to have a very drastic variety of landscapes. These include the Little Rocky Mountains to the southwest, the Missouri River Breaks to the south, the Saco Flats to the east, and rolling hills to the north. Phillips County also contains multiple waterways including the Missouri River, Milk River, Nelson Reservoir, Bowdoin Reservoir, and various creeks and ponds scattered across the county.
In addition to the challenging terrain, the weather in north-central Montana can be extreme with winter temperatures often reaching -40°F and summer highs regularly exceeding 100°F.
We take pride in both living and working in rural Montana despite the environmental challenges that are presented to our office.
